How To Get A Well Behaved Dog: Yorkshire Terrier Training
Yorkshire Terriers are great dogs. They are small, fine boned, elegant and easy to carry. They make great family pets, if trained properly, and are even great watchdogs because they are so constantly alert. They do not require a lot of exercise, and are usually happy enough just being at home hanging out with their owner.
There are a few concerns that come with this breed however, such as the fact that they tend to have separation anxiety when away from their owners. They also often have problems learning how to socialize and tend to have housebreaking problems as well.
They are very standoffish by nature and need extensive exposure to people as well as to unusual sights and sounds. You want them to be able to interact not only with other people but with other dogs as well. If you do not socialize them properly they make become suspicious or shy, and this can make them very difficult to deal with.
There are a few things in particular that you are going to want to keep in mind when it comes to Yorkshire Terrier training. For one, Yorkies tend to have very short memories and so you want to make sure that you use a lot of repetitiveness because otherwise they are likely to forget everything that they have learned, even if you only miss a day of training.
Also know that your little puppy is totally dependent on you, just like a child, to help him habituate and fit into the domesticated world. It is your guidance that is going to help lead the dog and mold him into the adult dog that he is one day going to be.
You need to remember when it comes to Yorkshire Terrier paper training that you are dealing with a very immature young animal. Just as with a child, they are inexperienced and are not trying to cause trouble. Using papers will show your little pet where you expect it to eliminate. Immediately clean up any accidents to discourage other accidents. You need to have patience and keep yourself from getting frustrated, especially since this is only going to backfire and cause them to become sad and discouraged.
You need to be realistic and flexible, and of course always fair. You should start these training lessons as soon as you bring the puppy home, so that you are getting started as soon as possible and have the best odds of having success.
Also keep in mind that there are some great resources out there when it comes to dog training, so you should never feel as though you have no options here. The Internet for one can be one of the best resources of all, as with it you are able to browse through literally hundreds of different websites and get information in a matter of minutes, something that you would obviously not be able to do otherwise.
