What type of careers will I find with a degree in Endocrinology-Reproductive Physiology?
Our alumni have careers in academia as faculty members, teachers, scientists, post-doctoral fellows and laboratory managers. Others are employed in the biotechnology sector including pharmaceutical companies, research institutions and small-business owners. Career opportunities also exist with federal agencies as staff scientists and program managers. What type of careers do Biology, Botany and Zoology students go on to do?
A.We have information on the jobs of almost all of our graduates of the last fifteen years. Roughly a quarter of our graduates go on to work towards a doctorate degree and a more than a third work in a wide range of biologically related careers including research, environmental management and teaching. Our graduates enter a diverse range of non-biological careers including, management, finance, IT, media and the civil service.The majority of graduates from the Physiology major plan to continue their studies, following completion of the BS in Health Sciences degree, in graduate school or in a professional school preparing for a career in health care (e.g., medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, etc.).
How do you become an ecologist?
Ecology is a career most people choose because of their love for nature. It takes a lot of dedication to become an ecologist. For those of you thinking about becoming an ecologist, high school classes in biology, math, chemistry, environmental science, geography, and computer science will be helpful. What shocked you most?
Two things: One, the totalitarian nature of so many low-wage workplaces. On two jobs, for example, there was a rule against talking with your fellow employees. The other major surprise to me was that the jobs were all mentally as well as physically challenging ? and I have a Ph.D. in biology.This is a three-year "undergraduate degree".
Are there any jobs or post-doctoral positions available in the School of Marine Biology?
This is a three-year "undergraduate degree". This degree is for students who have not completed any previous tertiary studies in a Science stream.
