Can I Really Learn Piano Fast?

Arts & Entertainment No Comments »
by L. M. Ray

The piano is a wonderful, universal instrument that plays a role in almost every country's musical culture. Because of its universal appeal, many people all over the world want to learn the instrument. Many new students of piano can get impatient with themselves as there are so many conflicting piano methods and teachers who believe that they have the answer.

Is there an easier way to learning the piano? No, there isn't and anyone who believes that is fooling themselves if they think they can play Bach Inventions or Jazz piano like George Shearing. What will happen is that the student will become very frustrated and disappointed if they don't see that they are playing complicated pieces.

The most important thing for beginners is doing one thing at a time and you need to learn the process and the technique first. Don't start trying to play a song before you are comfortable with the individual notes. Learning to read music is a pretty high priority for a new pianist, because once you can read the music you are one step closer to becoming proficient.

A new student would do themselves a favor if they decided to write down some steps on how they plan to master the basic skills. Most students need to push themselves so that they will gain self-confidence and achieve even more. Keep in mind that organized planning to master piano skills will help improve piano ability and self-esteem.

If you don't have a clearly marked goal, then why are you playing? Do you want to be able to play a certain song by a certain date or do you want to know all of the notes on the scale? Decide what it is that you want to accomplish first, then do it.

Set aside a certain amount of time every day to work towards your goal of building a foundation. Some beginning students want to find an easy way to get to be a good musician and pianist because practicing sounds too time consuming and boring. What they have to realize is that most excellent pianists have spent literally hours of practice perfecting their technique, sight reading, and musicianship.

You don't need to practice until you are exhausted, as that will do more harm than good. You don't want to be tired and bored after a few weeks, but you should set up a step by step plan to get to your larger goal which you can discuss with your instructor. Lastly, question your teacher about anything that confuses you regarding your assignments or mastering the fundamentals of the piano.

Maintain a positive attitude and stop being your worst critic. Keep in mind people have quit too soon because of a impatient and negative approach to learning a musical instrument that takes time to learn. Keep completing your assignments and ask your teacher or other friends that are good pianists for advice, and don't give up.

3 Things You Must Know Before Getting Wrist Tattoos

Arts & Entertainment No Comments »
by Amanda Davis

If you've been paying attention to the gossip titles, you'll know that wrist tattoos are fast becoming one of the coolest ways to personalize yourself! From Hollywood stars like Lindsay Lohan and Victoria Beckham to ordinary people like you and me!

Favorite designs for women include stars, fairies, flowers and rosaries. For men, favorite designs include flames, Celtic designs, stars and tribal tattoos. For women, favorites include stars, fairies, flowers and rosaries.

But the important thing to remember about wrist tattoos is that they are permanent and you need to be sure of what you're doing before you get one! Here are 3 things you need to think about.

Firstly, think about the pain! Common wisdom should make you realize that the wrist is quite a painful place to get a tattoo. If you're not at all good with pain, or even just if it's your first tattoo, perhaps consider somewhere on your body that has a bit more flesh to soften the impact of the tattoo needle.

Also, tattoos on thinner areas of skin will take longer to properly heal. They may need to be renewed more often to keep the design clear, too.

Secondly, wrist tattoos were historically associated with the lesbian and gay lifestyles - particularly designs involving stars. These days that association has mostly disappeared but before you get a permanent tattoo, you should consider finding out more about the history of your design.

Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, be certain you are sure you really want the tattoo! Perhaps this sounds obvious but many people don't think about it properly and end up regretting their decision. A tattoo on your wrist is a very visible place to have one. A tattoo on your shoulder, back or stomach is quite easy to hide - at least when you need to. But on your wrist it's almost impossible to hide it completely.

You might think it looks good, but what about your parents. And what about your boss or future employers! It would be unwise to negatively impact your job prospects for years to come because of one tattoo from your youth.

As you can see, there are some serious things to consider. But it's not all bad news! Wrist tattoos are a great way to make your body more individual and show people your style.

Just make sure you're sure before you go ahead!

Arts & Entertainment No Comments »
by James Morse

Want to buy a game system? Then you're probably pondering the pros and cons of all the available systems. Picking between the three big systems is hard, since all three have a lot to recommend them. How do you choose?

Now, let us take a closer look at each system. Every system has it's own uniqure selling points and quirks. To make a choice, it all comes down to your personal preferences.

We shall look at the Wii first. When the Wii broke onto the market, it completely changed the world of gaming. People who had never played games before loved the Wii. Grandmothers, girlfriends, and more are playing this console.

This is no surprise: the Wii is a blast! The tilt and position detecting controller of the Wii offers a completely different type of game play. Quite an amazing system. However, its graphics are not up to the latest standard, so some types of games won't get the level of detail they deserve.

The PS3 laughs at these problems. This system pulls out all the performance stops, giving the best graphics possible. The PS3 makes games look amazing. Some of the most popular gaming series are available for it, making it an even better choice.

High end graphics are also provided by the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 provides good performance with an ever growing library of games. It comes in several system configurations that give you different levels of functionality out of the box. Additionally, it is well supported by third parties. If it's Xbox 360 accessories you're looking for, you will not be disappointed.

The games should be the deciding factor when picking between these three systems. Most people like the games offered by one particular system more than others. If you like games with innovative new gameplay, get a Wii. If you like Japanese franchises, most are on the PS3. If you like shooters, the controller makes these a blast to play. Figure out what you like to play, and work from there.

Purchasing Canvasses Or Building Your Own?…

Arts & Entertainment No Comments »
by Anna Meenaghan

Canvas is used, which is made of linen, a substance which is taken from the flax plants. It is very strong and I would think that much of it is derived from Ireland. You can buy rolled canvas by the metre. Some artists prefer this to set and stretch their own.

Buying canvasses now in any number of retail outlets is comparatively easy and they are also relatively cheap. Even so, some people always make their own. They might want to make non standard sizes, so for anyone new to this, this is how you do it - buying canvas by the metre.

Firstly, you need to buy some canvas by the metre, don't skimp on this. Of course you need the wood pieces that make up your stretcher, by slotting together. On top of this, you will need a small paintbrush, the sort that you use in the home, acrylic gesso, a hammer, scissors, plus a staple gun, wedges and staples.

So, the canvas frame is made up by slotting your four wooden pieces together. Your canvas has to go right across this, leaving a generous two inches extra at all four sides. At this point take your scissors and cut the canvas. You need to start stapling the wood to the canvas on the longest side in the middle. When you have done this, pull the canvas across so that it is very tight and staple the middle to the other side.

By now, I am sure, that you realize the other side has to be done exactly the same way. From then on, starting in the middle, grab the stapler and staple across one side to the other. Do exactly the same on the stretcher back.

This should keep it pretty firm. I personally do not like the staples down the sides, so I would probably go straight to the back. Then you have the corners to sort out, so try to flatten them well before stapling. Now the hammer comes into play.

Take the support wedges and very carefully, with the hammer, in the back four corners, tap them in. What you need to then do, is with your paintbrush, apply a couple of layers of acrylic gesso. Make sure that the first coat is dry first of course.

Ready made canvasses are usually made of linen or cotton duck in various sizes, but they also often have synthetic content in them. Therefore the texture that you buy can be quite important.

Some may appear quite coarse. With these you can usually see the weave through the paint. Good for a rugged painting. The other sort, with a very fine grain, would be very good for work with very fine detailing.

Painting boards usually come readily primed with acrylic. Dual purpose, usable for oils or acrylics. However, paint will flake if you use acrylic paint on an oil based board as these should only be used for oils.
