Keep Your Baby Safe with Stroller Safety Tips

For decades use of baby strollers have offered convenience to parents on the move; and those products designed for infants and toddlers always carry red flags and safety alerts for us to consider.

No loving parent wants to learn of any baby or toddler that may have suffered injury, or potentially death, from the use of a baby stroller. As a result of such accidents many safety tips have been compile, a few of them listed here, to assist parents in learning and understanding safety enhancements that are most important to consider when selecting a baby stroller.

In our effort to provide data concerning the dangers that are associated with these devices, as well as some basic safety features that are important to the health and life of your child, we hope to help you gain the reassurance of determining if a product is safe before purchasing it for your child.

Baby Stroller Use and its Dangers

During the years of 2004 through 2007, a 911 Response Team in just one community reported a number of stroller related injuries, according to Pediatric Emergency Care. Data from this particular study showed the community the following:

The study was conducted for approximately three and a half years. During this time, 241 different incidents occurred that were specific to those involving shopping carts and strollers. The amount of stroller related injuries came to a number of 121.

The ages of the children that were involved in the stroller related injuries averaged between 0 months and 6 months of age.

Falls resulted in a percentage of 47.5% of all the cases, the largest number of the injuries reported.

59% of the injuries coming from stroller related injuries were attributed to the head area.

At least 18% of the children monitored also sustained an injury directly related to the facial area.

An ambulance transported at least 77% of the children evaluated to the local emergency treatment center.

While there were no deaths, it is estimated that a little over 8% of all the children involved were hospitalized for further treatment and evaluation of their injuries.

It is believed that as parents become aware of steps to keep their children safe in their strollers, there will be less likelihood that injury or death will occur while employing the convenience of the stroller. Based on the information obtained from this study, medical professionals determined that education should be an emphasis when it comes to parents who implement them.

Safety Measures for Stroller Use

The following details some of the safety measures for stroller use. If you have purchased a stroller, or you are considering purchasing a stroller, it is important that you know and understand the basic safety measures that you can take in this situation. Below are some effective strategies that have been found to enhance the safe use of strollers.

1. Fact: Strollers that are narrow tend to have the most complications when it comes to leaning and tipping over. It is essential to ensure that you purchase astroller that has a base that is relatively wide. This way, there is a reduced opportunity for tipping and accidental falls.

2. It is often tempting for an adult to hang things on the stroller handles, such as purses and diaper bags. It is important to understand though, that by doing so you are providing the possibility of causing a stroller to begin tipping over, and this can result in injury.

3. There is a seatbelt that is attached to the stroller. It is absolutely imperative that you use the seatbelt at all times. This will add security to the device for the child.

4. Each and every single time that you are using the stroller, it is important to ensure that you take the time to use the device that locks the stroller into place. It is equally important to use the wheel locking devices when the stroller is not in movement.

5. When using the device, you should never leave it unattended. It is when a child is left unattended that the most injuries occur.

6. Before and after each use check the stroller carefully to ensure that the parts are all secure - especially the seat area and the wheel area. Do not place your child in the stroller if you find that any parts are loose. It is best to fix these components, or purchase a new unit altogether.

7. Product recalls are issued on a regular basis due to safety issues, hence is is wise to always evaluate the product that you have to compare it to the product recalls. If you find that your stroller is listed, simply discard it or follow the appropriate instructions on the recall list.

Conclusion

While strollers offer a number of benefits to the parents, these devices can also pose a danger to the children that are placed in them. It is imperative to ensure that you learn as much as you can regarding what can happen, and how to prevent these situations from occurring. If you do this, it is almost a guarantee that your child and/or children will remain safe.

Teaching Children Righteousness

Written by Zacharias Allred on in: Kids & Teens | Tags:

Children can be taught to pray by incorporating other principals such as love and patience. As parents we have a responsibility to bring our children up in righteousness. Here are some ideas to help you.

Praying should be out loud. Your child may not readily understand what praying is. To help try replacing the word "pray" with the word "talk." Encourage them to talk with God. It is said of men of old that they walked and talked with God.

Love and patience are important virtues to learn when learning to pray. Our children will have softer hearts and will have better understands about the way the Lord works in our lives. Samuel of old heard the still small voice of the Lord while yet a boy because his heart was right before God.

Understanding love is necessary when teaching your children to pray. Love gives us hope in the future and a feeling of security. When our children learn that the very nature of God is love they will want to be close to him.

Love is synonymous with God. Your children will understand what love is when you share with them your feeling for them. Why you do all that you do for them. God does all this for you as well because he loves you and your child.

Teaching children patience is necessary when teaching children to pray because God does not always give an answer right away. Kids are growing up in a world where everything is provided for them immediately. From the time they are babies all they need to do is cry and their caregiver rushes to satisfy their needs. Unfortunately, this crying does not stop just because they learn to speak.

As with many things the best way to teach patience is by example. Take for example when you drive. Are you yelling at other motorists and calling them names while you drive? The next time you drive try turning to your child and telling them that although you are in a hurry you are going to be patient with the other drivers on the road. Find a way to relate this with praying.

When we teach our children to pray we also need to teach them about love and patience. God is love and will always answer our prayers. We must be patient though and be willing to wait for him to answer us.

I Want The Best Doll House On Earth!

Written by Dane Masters on October 10, 2008 in: Kids & Teens | Tags:

Think of the joy a child gets when presented with a huge wooden doll house! There is no gender difference--both boys and girls love this sort of a make-believe house of their own. If allowed to participate in decision making, all the more better. The child's creative imagination gets enhanced because of being given a chance to decorate and furnish the house, organize things, and so on. The dolls inside this play house become real for him or her, giving family members to create stories for the child and further fire the imagination!

Typically, a wood doll house is created after real homes in the world. House styles vary from area to area, but most wood doll house manufacturers use plans from the more popular home styles-Victorian, Colonial, Georgian, American farm house, or English Tudor.

A Victorian home is an elaborate two-story home that often came with an attic on the unfinished third floor. Named after Queen Anne who loved things to look regal, Queen Anne Victorian homes had a number of large windows, fancy curved wrap-around porches, irregular rooflines, and towers on the upper corner of the house. On the outside, these homes showcased exquisite millwork and latticework skirting. The open areas under the porches were also finished with the latticework skirting. Children love wood doll house models that are created to look like Victorian homes. The large rooms allow for entertaining and the upstairs contain many bedrooms to fit larger families.

The Eastern area favors colonial-style houses. The house is well worth the money that is paid for it, since the area is large. Two-storied in construction and rectangular in shape, the living space is more than enough for the entire family. While the bedrooms are housed on the upper floor, the downstairs is meant for entertaining. The construction is quite standard.

Similar to Colonial houses are the Georgian homes. The shape is rectangular, but there are borders on either side. These borders consist of very large stone or brick chimneys. The impression one gets is that one side is the mirror image of the opposite side. The living space even here is very large, so there is plenty of space to move around and entertain. Georgian houses are grander colonial houses.

The simplest of them all is the American Farm House! They are in the form of an L or a T. This is so because the main portion of the house is constructed first and then it is extended at the back in the shape of an L or a T. The reason is to get more living space, that is all. Just like in other houses, the bedrooms are situated at the top. The downstairs portion consists of the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Manufacturers find these type of houses the easiest to construct.

Lastly, we come to English Tudor-style houses. They are really magnificent to look at, and remain a great favorite with children! True, this type of doll house is more expensive than the others, what with all the fancy settings! Again a two-storeyed construction, the living area and guest rooms remain on the main floor, while the bedrooms are upstairs. Why are these houses so special? Well, they have all these trappings to them--timber lines on the stone walls, parapets, cross-hatching near the roof line, huge stone chimneys and narrow windows.

Let your child help decide which wood doll house is right for them. Including them in every decision will allow them to feel as though their opinion matters and it also ensures that they'll enjoy it for years to come.

How to Pass a Driving Exam

It's hard to remember that driving on the road is a lot different than it is on an empty lot. Some of the newer generations of teens don't appreciate the value of their own education and can end up losing their ability to drive freely. There are always many tips that can help you to pass your driving exam with less of a headache.

Learning your Driving signals, driving etiquette, steering wheel hand positions and safer driving practices in high traffic are what studying and practicing your driving can benefit from. Always learn how to drive with both hands on the wheel at all times.

Having adequate practice is a given. Always have a qualified driver with a license to help teach you the basics of driving and what you need to in certain situations. Make sure to practice in areas that have less traffic so that you are less likely to get into an accident or dangerous situation involving other people.

There are many different signs posted everywhere within a city. You may want to learn what they mean in case you come across any of them within your driving exam's course. Research any special signs that you might see to know what they mean and what you should do at them. Using hand signals instead of the signal lights may be needed in the future so be sure to know how to perform them. It is also beneficial to know what the divider lines on the road represent.

Listening carefully to what the driving instructor tells you to do can help you make better choices when driving out in public for the first time. Knowing what to do when they ask you to turn somewhere or park in a difficult place is a must and may require additional practice.

Things like not wearing a seatbelt, making an illegal U turn, overly tapping on the gasoline pedal too when accelerating the vehicle are rookie mistakes that could have been easily avoided if the appropriate precautions were taken. Always check your mirrors and look through into your blind spots before entering another lane. Using cell phones, smoking, fidgeting or swearing during your driving test are big mistakes to make in front of driving instructor. The last thing you want is to get into a collision.

Closing Comments

It is easy to pass a driving exam. You can always try again if you do fail, but make sure it's not because of something stupid you could have prevented.
