Woodworking - A Guide for Beginners

Home & Family No Comments »

by Colin Joss

Woodworking is the skill of taking a piece of wood and carving it or building it into something beautiful or practical. Wooden furniture and wooden sculptures are popular these days. A great way to improve the look of your house is to include some wooden furniture or art.

But creating quality woodwork takes a great deal of practice and skill.

Basically wood is of 3 types. They are hardwoods that is obtained from deciduous trees, man made materials that include plywood and softwoods that are obtained from evergreen trees. There are many wood workers who have made a mark in woodworking by building some of the finest architecture, furniture. Some of the popular wood workers of all times are Alvar Aalto, Norm Abram, and John Boson.

Today woodworking tools are used most commonly to make furniture in the house. You will also see a variety of woodworking tools at construction sites. Most woodworking tools are power driven. Some of the common wood working tools that are commonly used on construction sites are chain saws, nail guns, rotary tools, routers, biscuit jointer and sanders.

From sanding a piece of wood smooth to shooting a nail, woodworking tools come in many shapes and sizes for all kinds of purposes. And it's difficult to picture building a fine piece of furniture without many of the modern power tools. Luckily, power tools are easy to find in all good home centers.

Operating power tools can be dangerous. Without the proper knowledge and training you can cause yourself serious injury. Master carpenters train for many years to learn to produce quality furniture while safely handling the toos.

A master carpenter will use these tools to make such fine furniture as cabinets, chairs, and dining tables. But of course, the better the quality of furniture and craftsmanship the higher the price!

How can I adjust or tighten the walking belt on my treadmill?
Click here to go to our Treadmill Repair, Troubleshooting section. Another way to reach it is to click here to return to our home page. At the side of our home page click on the "Treadmill Repair, Troubleshooting" link. In this section, you will find tips and an illustration that will help you adjust your belt.If you buy an Orbiter you will be even more excited about it a year from now.

What should I look for when I'm shopping for a treadmill?
The size of a treadmill's motor dictates its range of use (i.e. walking versus running) and your cost. If you are a runner, the manufacturers' recommended minimum is 1.5 continuous duty horsepower. Even for a walker, a bigger motor lets you enjoy a smoother, quieter workout and your motor will last longer. Also try the machine you're considering before you buy. Feel how stable the frame is and if the controls are conveniently located.Your treadmill features a maintenance-free walking belt coated with Performant Lube, a high-performance lubricant. During the first few hours of use, it is normal for a small amount of white powder to appear on the foot rails, walking platform and possibly the floor. The white powder is high-performance lubricant from the walking belt.

Which LifeSpan treadmill is right for me?
It depends on your needs and personal preferences. Click here for a comparison chart of LifeSpan treadmills, or select a LifeSpan treadmill model below to learn more.We purchased a local commercial equipment sales company on October 1, 2005 so we don't rate what we sell. We do NOT sell any home equipment nor do we sell commercial equipment outside our local service area. You need to have a local company to service your equipment, especially with commercial equipment.

What are your standards for rating treadmills in your Home Treadmill Review section?
First understand that these ratings are only our opinion but we have been in the treadmill business for over 100 years collectively, so we know how a treadmill should be built and it is not easy to fool us. Here they are: 1) WALKING AREA should have at least a 18" x 52" surface to rate AVERAGE. A larger belt is not necessarily a good thing. Get a belt large enough to make sure you wont have any problems.first, chemical pest control seems cheap and effective, but pesticides tend not to work in the long run. Pest inevitably develop resistance to the very chemicals aimed at them. Because the natural enemies that once kept the pest under control are usually destroyed as well, the pest multiply to become threats - a phenomenon known as resurgence.

Slash Your Wage Costs By Business Outsourcing

Computers & Technology No Comments »

by Darron Skinner-Martin

Right now, the Australian Information Technology labour market is a very tight one; it's difficult to find IT staff to hire at all, let alone retain them for any length of time. It recruitment agencies specialize in finding IT staff offshore. Even worse, Australian IT staff are expensive; people who work in white collar jobs tend to want to be paid more than blokes who work with their hands, and IT staffers are no different. An outsourcing business will enable you to save up to sixty per cent of you wage bill.

Offshore IT recruitment agencies may be able to assist your business by providing you access to IT staff from around the world. Completing a cost benefit analysis will reveal whether the use of an outsourcing business is suitable for your company. In the current times it is becoming very common practice for people and businesses to work from home without ever going to the office.

The first benefit is that an outsourcing business can cut costs, dramatically. The use of offshore IT recruitment agencies can be used for your 'grunt level' jobs; these are people who do basic web programming or install applications on your servers. Some have success moving this on to graphic designers and search engine optimization specialists, and there are a few who try it with copy writers, however, jargon can sometimes be confusing between countries, even the English speaking nations like Australia and Great Britain.

Using offshore IT recruitment agencies also provides you with a larger pool of people to choose your staff from. It is possible to get highly educated, English speaking people to do work of the highest standard if you are to use an outsourcing business. The Philippines has the opposite dilemma to Australia. They have too many degree educated IT staff in the labour hire market. This results in the wage cost being reduced.

Using an outsourcing business can enable your business to go online without the huge costs. It is estimated sixty per cent of businesses receive increased sales when they go online. Using IT recruitment agencies will ensure you get the right staff to get the job done the way you want it. Outsourcing business will give you instant access to staff with all the skills you require in your business.

Focusing on the key components of your business will enhance its growth but is not possible without outsourcing business elsewhere. Using offshore IT recruitment agencies will ensure the best staff are found for you. Staff who can develop websites and databases are readily available but the only person who can develop your business is you. You will be able to complete the jobs only you can actually do. In addition, all companies require a range of skills sets to help fuel its growth and development.

Using IT recruitment agencies is paramount to growing and developing your business both online and offline. Outsourcing business will increase your businesses productivity and capabilities without the cash flow problems most businesses experience.

Smart Energy Living Start With Solar Power Panels

Computers & Technology No Comments »

by James Johnson

Even though people generally think of solar power panels as some sort of oversized reflective box that catches the sun's rays, that perception is changing quickly as the technology for solar cells is progressing.

As with anything related to the sun there is going to be heat involved, this heat can also be collected and used to heat both your water and incoming air for your ventilation systems using solar power panels. Commonly known as a photovoltaic panel, or PV panel, solar power panels are lined with a semi-conductive material, typically silicon based that produces electricity when sunlight passes through it. This lining is called the solar cell. The electricity then travels through the conductive material into the electrical system that powers your home or business.

Originally, the solar panel or PV panels were restricted to big square or rectangular-shaped enclosures. Recently, the manufacturing process for solar cells has developed tremendously, opening new doors to significant changes in the way solar power panels can be integrated into your business or home. As solar cells become as a more practical alternative to energy problems, solar panels have become easier to install and can be made a part of roofing material or even parts of windows. Building Integrated Photovoltaics, or BIPV, is the emerging technology of integrating solar cells into all kinds of building materials, so that a building can be green from the ground up.

Solar power panels can be incorporated into skylights, windows, exterior walls, awnings and almost anywhere that has a direct line-of-sight path to the sun. As new advances in solar power panel technology come on to the market, solar power cells can be made a part of any roof for both collecting energy and providing the traditional insulation and protection one can get from traditional roofing materials.

Many kinds of solar power panel assemblies are mounted off the building itself. The two most popular kinds are pole-mounted or ground mounted fixtures both of which allow placement of solar panels where they will get maximum sun exposure, thus giving greater flexibility in both solar system and building design. Solar panels generate some power with only indirect exposure to sunlight, but you'll generate the most amount of solar power only if there is direct exposure of solar panels to the sun's full rays.

Ground mounted structures which are mounted typically to metal frames anchored into the ground with traditional construction methods, concrete footers etc. These frames can be built with motorized mounts for the solar power panels which would allow them to track or follow the sun throughout the day.

Pole mounted solar power panels can be made to adjust themselves to the sun's path as well, This is important so a solar cell can capture as much sunlight as possible as the sun moves throughout the day. Solar cells mounted on poles are mounted on the side, top or front of the metal pole.

What type of equipment do you have?
We have treadmills, bikes, elliptical trainers, selectorized weight machines, free weights, and variable resistance hydraulic machines.

Fitness: I'll go nuts if I can't do my cardio everyday. Do cruise ships offer cardio equipment?
This is where most cruise ships excel. Stationary bikes, elliptical machines, stair climbers, treadmills ? most cruise lines equip their fitness centers with an excellent variety and quality of cardio machines. There is never any cost to use this equipment but some cruise lines ask that you sign up in advance. Cruise Tip: If cardio's your thing, head to the gym soon after boarding to get the best slots. But don't forget to first factor in the times of shore excursions or shipboard activities. You are in luck! You won't need to join a local fitness club because we have a recreation center just for Truman students and faculty.

What kind of equipment do you have?
For strength training, we have Hammer Strength plate-loaded equipment, Life Fitness selectorized machines, and Iron Grip free weights. We have more than three dozen pieces of cardiovascular equipment (treadmills, elliptical trainers, summit trainers, stair climbers, upright and recumbent bikes, rowing machines, spin bikes, versa climbers), many of them equipped with LCD screens with cable TV.Our treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes are only available online; this keeps the 40%-45% dealer mark-up out of our prices. When you purchase a unit from a local dealer, youre paying that local dealer a huge mark-up to cover their overhead costs.

What does your facility consist of?
Our facility includes a weight room area, free weights and machines, fitness area consisting of treadmills, elliptical machines, cycles and steppers; basketball and gymnasium; racquetball courts; an indoor / heated swimming pool; toddler pool for children five and under; outdoor walking/running path.

What specific equipment is available in Sands Health Club?
Our Health Club is equipped with array of advanced equipment to include: Cardiovascular Section with (3) treadmills, (4) exercise bicycles, (2) Stairmasters and (3) Precor Elliptical machines. Also there is a weight room with dumbbells, free weights and Nautilus equipment. Sands Resorts offers a water aerobics class. Our treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes are only available online; this keeps the 40%-45% dealer mark-up out of our prices. When you purchase a unit from a local dealer, youre paying that local dealer a huge mark-up to cover their overhead costs.

Are the calorie burns on cardio machines accurate?
Kath: Calories burned on the machines is entirely based on the type of machine (such as arms or no arms) and the resistance you have. Running on the treadmill, I usually am around 160 BPM and on the elliptical anywhere from 150-160. So for me, running is harder, but the elliptical is a VERY close second.Your treatment will vary based upon your condition, injury or type of surgery. The therapist might perform joint mobilization or range of motion exercises with you. You could receive applications of moist or deep heat or electrical muscle stimulation (commonly referred to as 'modalities').

The Most Common Mistakes People Do At The Gym

Recreation & Sports No Comments »

by Jason Storm

Are you one of those that seem to spend hours at the gym every week and still don't get the results you are wanting? Or do you simply want to find techniques that will make your training more efficient?

There are many things you can do to get the most out of the time spent and in this article I will give you some guidance on how to work out in the best way for maximum results.

There are a lot of mistakes that people do that make them work much harder than they need to. The most common are: -To not use weights that are enough heavy -To do more reps than they should -To spend to long hours at the gym -To not let the muscles rest long enough in between their work outs

So how heavy should the weights be then? For best results, you want the weights to be so heavy that you would not have been able to make even one more lift after your last rep. If you could make a few more, then lift heavier next time. This is to give the muscles most possible resistance which will trigger the body to produce more muscle tissue.

The number of reps can vary a bit depending on which muscle you are exercising. For most muscle groups though, one could say that 3 sets of 6-8 reps will do pretty good. However for maximum gain, you might be better off to do only one set of 8-10 reps, using heavier weights instead. The basic rule is to do your lifts short and intense. Don't have long breaks in between sets - no longer than 1 minute.

Make sure you spend no more than 30-45 minutes at each work out session. Why is that? To many people it might seem to be a good idea to work our 2 hours at a time since they're at the gym anyway. This will do you no good since the energy supply in the body that comes from carbohydrates lasts only for 45 minutes while working out. Beyond that, your body will have to find other sources to be able to keep on going and this means it will use energy stored in your muscles.

Finally, you want to make sure that you give your body a proper rest. Make sure that the muscles that you trained get around 48 hours of rest before you work them next time. Don't wait longer than that though since that will delay the building up process.

These few things are basic knowledge that is important to have when you want to gain muscles properly. This builds a stable base and from there you can experiment with different exercises and find the ones that works best for you.
